Are you ready to dive in? Come on!

How are the ILTS exams scored?

The ILTS exams are scored by computer software and then validated.

Scores are reported within a range of 100 to 300. A score of 240 is passing. This score is not your raw score. Your raw score is converted to the scaled score so that everyone is kept on the same playing field. One very important detail is that wrong answers do not count against you. So when you are taking the test, don’t be afraid to make educated guesses on questions you are unsure about.

How long does it take to get ILTS scores?

Once you finish the exam at the testing site, you will get your preliminary scores. Official scores are released two to six weeks after the exam is taken. To find out when you will receive your scores, check out the testing website.

What score do you need to pass the ILTS test?

Most ILTS exams need a scaled score of 240 out of 300 to pass. Check your individual exam requirements here. You don’t have to get 80% of the questions correct, though! Each question is assigned a point value and some questions are field questions that do not count toward the final score.

How long do you have to wait before you can retake an ILTS exam?

If you fail an ILTS exam, you must wait between 14 and 60 days to retake it. Most content area exams have a two-week wait time. Find out the wait time for specific exams here. To retake an ILTS exam, you need to register for the exam again, pay the fee, and make sure you schedule the new test date after the wait time.

To avoid having to retake an ILTS exam, give yourself plenty of time to study. Use a ILTS study guide that is aligned to your specific test and start studying two to three months before the exam. If you do need to retake an ILTS exam, use the waiting period to focus on the areas of the test that you struggled most with.

How do you interpret an ILTS score report?

ILTS score reports are easy to read. At the top of the page, your score is listed along with your status of pass or fail. Under this, there will be an analysis of the exam’s subareas. This shows you how well you did on questions related to certain topics. This helps you to see your strengths and weaknesses, but there is not a pass or fail status assigned to the subareas.

How hard is it to pass an ILTS exam?

The ILTS exams were written and reviewed by educators with many years of experience and are designed to determine if a candidate has the knowledge and skills to become a teacher. These exams can be difficult and you should allow time to prepare. You can check out the passing rate for your exam here.

Start preparing for the ILTS exam at least two to three months before the test date. Make a study plan and stick to it. Use a study guide that is aligned with your ILTS exam. Study guides at 240 Tutoring are backed by a guarantee! Taking a practice test before you begin studying can help you determine which areas you should focus on most.
