Finally, we’ll show you where to find free resources!

How Hard is the Praxis Core?

You might be asking yourself some tough questions like, “How difficult is the Core?” or “Am I prepared?”

The Core is difficult! Its purpose is to measure your academic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. No matter what content area you are planning to teach, the Core is used to measure your content knowledge to ensure that you’re qualified to become an educator.

Being well prepared is essential. We’ll help you gather all the resources and study materials you need to be ready to take the Praxis Core.

240 Tutoring’s Praxis Core Practice Test and Free Study Guide breaks down each subtest to help you better understand what will be on the Core.

How Do You Pass the Praxis Core?

You now might be wondering what counts as a passing score on the Praxis Core.  Each state sets its own score guidelines, but in general, passing scores are 150 for Mathematics, 156 for Reading, and 162 for Writing.  You can search for state-specific scoring information here.

The Praxis Core is scored using a combination of raw points for select-response questions and combined scores from professionals on any constructed-response questions. These totals are combined to create your final score. Check out this article from 240 Tutoring that discusses Praxis scoring in more detail.

What If You Fail the Praxis® Core?

Once you take your exam, you will receive a score report.  This report will include the scores and pass/fail status for each subtest.

Your score report will show your raw points earned as well as the average performance range.  Use the information from this report to determine what areas of the test you need to focus on.

There is a 28-day waiting period to observe between testing and retesting. This is a perfect time to return to a focused Praxis Core study guide and get the most detailed review in.

Where Do You Find the Best Resources for the Praxis Core?

Finding the best resources for the Praxis Core can be tricky. There are multiple resources available, but you want to make sure you’re using reliable resources. We’ll look at two websites you can rely on.

The first resource is the ETS website, which offers a Study Companion for each subtest (ReadingMathematics, and Writing). These resources will provide you with practical skills to help prepare you for the tests. ETS also offers strategies and tips to prepare you for your exam.

The second reliable resource is 240 Tutoring. The Praxis Core Practice Test and Prep Page and study guide have everything you need to pass. 240 Tutoring’s practice test will help you better understand the structure of the Core. You’ll get a breakdown of each subtest and learn what to expect on the test. You’ll also be able to take a practice test for each subtest. You can use your choice of a combined study guide or a study guide for each subtest (ReadingMathematics, and Writing).

The writing test has two sections. One section has selected-response questions, and the second section has two essay questions. This constructed-response resource will help you with the essay section.

If you need help determining which is the best fit for you, check out this guidance from Dr. Kristy Mulkey on choosing the best study resource.

Where Do You Find Study Guides for the Praxis Core?

Before you begin studying, you’ll want to get a better understanding of the structure of the Core. You’ll want to know what kinds of questions are asked and what to expect on the exam. You can find this information and more in a solid study guide. A good study guide will help determine how well you do on your Praxis Core.

240 Tutoring’s Praxis Core complete study guide includes more than 500 practice questions and 209 pages of study materials. You also have the option of a study guide for each subtest.

Each study guide comes with the 240 Tutoring Guarantee: If you earn 90% or higher on the full-length practice test and are unsuccessful on the exam, 240 Tutoring will provide a refund for up to two months of your subscription!

The ETS website also offers a Study Companion for each subtest (ReadingMathematics, and Writing). These resources will help you in conjunction with the study guides from 240 Tutoring.

How Do You Use Study Guides to Study for the Praxis Core?

Now that you know where to find study guides, we’ll talk about how you will use the study guides to help you study for the Praxis Core.

A study guide is one of the best resources you can use to pass the Praxis. The first step will be to take the diagnostic test to find your weaknesses in the content. Your study guide will then provide you step-by-step directions on how to continue to study the material.

Using the information from the diagnostic test, you can create a study plan. Your study plan will involve gathering all your resources and splitting up the content materials so that you know specifically what to study each day. You’ll want to set aside time each day to devote to studying the material. After you have reviewed all the study material, you’ll want to take another practice test. This practice test will help to show if you’re ready to take the real test.

So, what kind of study guide has everything you need to be successful? Luckily, there is a prepared study guide that already does that for you! Check out the Complete Praxis Core Study Guide. 240 Tutoring also offers individual study guides for each subtest.

When and How Much Should You Study for the Praxis Core?

You now have all the resources you need to pass the Praxis, so when do you need to start studying? The answer to that question depends on YOU. How well you do on a practice test will show you how much you need to study. The practice test will show your weaknesses and help you to develop a study plan to make sure you cover all of the content you need for the Core.

After you find any gaps in your knowledge, you’ll have a better idea of how much time to set aside each day to study. You’ll also be able to see how many days it’ll take you to cover all of the material on the Core exam. Generally, you’ll want to set aside about four weeks per subtest, with some time to review all the material at the end.

Once you have a grasp on a study plan that works for you, you’ll want to register for a test date that allows enough time to cover all of the material. You’ll also want to allow enough time to review the content and take another practice test before you take your exam.

Hopefully, we’ve now answered all of your questions to help prepare you for the Praxis Core!
