Everything you need to know about NES Certification Exams
NES stands for the National Evaluation Series and is a group of tests created by Pearson. The NES exams cover everything from essential academic skills to elementary reading instruction and teaching English language learners. Visit the NES website to learn more about the testing series.
NES test requirements vary depending on your state. You can use this article to learn more about which NES exams you need to take.
Registering for the NES exam is different for each state. Some states have you register on the NES website, while others send you to a state website. Learn more about registering for NES exams in this 240 article.
The NES is scored using a scaled score ranging from 100 to 300. The national benchmark for NES exams is a score of 220. States that require or use NES exams can choose their own passing score. Check with your state to find out what benchmark they use.
If you fail your exam you must wait 30 days before you can retake the exam. To retake an exam, you need to register for the exam again and make sure to schedule the retake at least 30 days after your initial exam. You will also need to pay the fees again.
Most NES exams cost $95 even though they vary in length. Exams with multiple subtests may have a different price so be sure to check the NES website for exam pricing.
